Triage project – waitlist services
Keira Stone Speech Pathology is working to improve access to speech pathology services in South Australia.
There is significant concern in South Australia (and we expect in Australia) about waitlists for allied health services, predominantly speech pathology and occupational therapy.
The evidence is growing that waiting for early intervention services does have an impact on children and their families when they “wait” for extended periods of time for services they seek, or, in other words, they do not have access to the early intervention support that they would like to engage with.
At KSSP we are implementing trials to alleviate this for our infants to 7-year-old cohort, with the hope that we can expand this to more services and eventually reduce the immediate demand for 1:1 intervention.
We are looking for expressions of interest from parents/ carers of children aged 0-7 years old to access fee-free group services to access parent and carer information groups for childhood speech, language and mealtimes. These groups will explore typical developmental information, what to look out for and staregies to support speech, language and mealtime development.
